Who are YOU, Mama Su?

Born in Vietnam, raised in the Hudson Valley, and cultivated in NYC, I am a product of my parents’ intense work ethic with an undeniable need to create. After graduating from FIT with a fine arts degree in Illustration, I enjoyed a successful career in print-based accessories design while living in the city. Then came the kids, and eventually the house in the ‘burbs, in the lovely town that’s chosen for its schools and not its nightlife. Over the years, whenever given the opportunity, I’ve explored every medium from painting to print making to yarn, and even clay. And the truth is, I love it all, and could never choose just one thing to do forever.

The Mask Project

In March of 2020, COVID-19 put an end to the fairy tale and changed our lives. Driven by a desire to help and a desperate need for distraction, like so many others, I dusted off my sewing machine and started making fabric face masks. I sent some to friends and family, and connected with different mask making groups on Facebook. In 5 months, I made and donated hundreds and hundreds of face masks for essential workers and those in need. (I lost count after 700.) In the process, I honed my sewing skills, found and tested the best patterns, and improved the quality, as materials became more readily available. Today, with face masks being an integral part of our daily lives, I’ve decided to dip back into my experience in accessories design to inject a little fun and style into the mix. So here we are. I hope you find some prints you like, and let Mama Su make them for you.
